Aristide Economopoulos has been a staff photographer at The Newark Star-Ledger since November 2000. He has worked at the State Journal-Register, Ill., the Jasper Herald, IN, and as a freelance photographer for The Washington Post.
Specializing in documentary essays, he is a three-time winner of NYC and NJ Press Photographer of the Year. Other awards he has won include the World Press Photo, Picture of the Year International, National Press Photographers Association Best of Photojournalism and the Casey Medals for Meritorious Journalism of disadvantaged children and families.
Economopoulos resides in Jersey City, N.J., with his wife and fellow photojournalist Julia Xanthos.
