Clay Willis was born and raised in Santa Monica, Calif., attending Crossroads School for the Arts & Sciences. As an undergrad, Willis concentrated in photography and was involved in community activism devoted to environmental and educational issues. Wanting to pursue a career in photography, but with a dimension of civic input, Willis enrolled in The Newhouse School for photojournalism in 2006, with hopes of a career devoted to humanitarian issues through journalism and activism.
