A red light stops traffic one way and one of Skaneateles's town characters, Chris Roy, crosses West Genesee Street on his route to downtown. Roy is known as a regular throughout the village. Everyone knows Roy who is simply known as “Chris” around Skaneateles.

On Saturday, Roy, 42, heads to Grant Jewelers to get his new bracelet.

Roy, a tall statured man with broad shoulders, wears a trench coat of his deceased father. He also wears jewelry and a purse, in remembrance of his deceased mother.

His caregiver, Sally Bozeat, has helped Roy and his family for 27 years. Bozeat moved in with Roy, after Roy’s father, Eddie, fell and went to the hospital for 16 months in 2006.

Although Bozeat cooks and helps Roy with his basic needs, she says that he is fairly independent, because he cleans his dishes, puts away his clothes and sometimes he cooks his own eggs for breakfast in the morning.

Roy is able to manage his daily life, but hovering over him is the death of his parents. The passing affects Roy in his regular life, which is the reason he wears his parents’ clothes and accessories. He constantly tells his friends that he misses his parents too.

However, Roy knows that life goes on and he must be strong.
