Climbing for Camaraderie

by Stefanie Campolo | Coaches Lisa Krantz and Aristide Economopoulos

Fifth grade students from State Street Intermediate School spend their Friday at the Experiential Learning Center at Orenda Springs in Marcellus, where the premise of the day trip is to gain confidence and build a greater sense of community among the students. Climbing the ropes course is the last part of the day, as the beginning is spent learning about Orenda Springs and partaking in various trust exercises. All of the fifth grade classes at State Street Intermediate School are required to spend a day at the center. Heather Buff, the fifth grade teacher, says that she noticed a lot of improvement with her class last year and was already seeing improvements among her students while on the trip.
